Meester’s ‘secret’ fascination for famous artists is deftly portrayed in ‘study portraits’; ‘Portrait of Henri M’ and ‘Portrait of Francis P’ (collages, 2009). She has intentionally omitted the famous surnames. Meester feels insignificant in comparison to these giants, but brings this successfully into perspective with the right combination of irony and playfulness. In the search for meaning and truth, she progressively presents contrast and contradictions. For her this dialectic is a method of knocking down assumptions and bringing order to her thought.
