‘Het is wat wij ervan maken en ermee doen’ vormt de kern van mijn artistieke praktijk.

Als mixed-media kunstenaar, ook bekend als #Trash_Healer, werk ik op het snijvlak van spel, ontmoeting en maatschappelijke reflectie. Ik ontwikkel werk op uitnodiging voor tentoonstellingen, maar mijn belangrijkste werkterrein is de openbare ruimte, waar de stad fungeert als atelier en gesprekspartner.

Daar maak ik straatpoëzie op ramen en gevels en plaats ik gele verkeersborden met teksten die inspelen op hun omgeving. Deze interventies ontstaan in wisselwerking met de plek en de mensen die er langskomen, en openen ruimte voor reflectie, herkenning en gesprek.

In Amsterdam werk ik sinds 2020 aan een groeiende collectie Trash-sculpturen, ontwikkeld vanuit het motto “Your Trash is My Treasure.” Met materialen die ik verzamel bij afvalplaatsen maak ik eerst schetsen in mijn studio, die ik vervolgens op locatie opnieuw opbouw. Met mijn fietskar beweeg ik door de stad, op zoek naar plekken waar het werk een relatie kan aangaan met de omgeving.

De sculpturen zijn tijdelijk en soms wankel, maar zorgvuldig opgebouwd. Tijdens het opbouwen ontstaan vaak spontane ontmoetingen: voorbijgangers kijken, reageren of bieden hulp wanneer iets omvalt. Deze interacties maken deel uit van het werk, ook al ontstaat het vanuit een individuele handeling.

De interventies zijn kortstondig en toegankelijk, maar raken aan grotere vragen over consumptie, waarde en aandacht in het Antropoceen. Via beeld en aanwezigheid ontstaat een vorm van soft activisme, waarin niet wordt opgelegd, maar wordt uitgenodigd om anders te kijken naar wat we weggooien en wat we betekenis geven.

Inmiddels heb ik meer dan honderd sculpturen in de stad gerealiseerd. Wat blijft zijn de beelden, de documentatie en de ontmoetingen: foto’s, video’s, performances en teksten waarin de werken en hun context verder leven. Elke sculptuur staat op zichzelf, maar samen vormen ze een voortdurend onderzoek naar hoe betekenis ontstaat en hoe die steeds opnieuw kan verschuiven in het dagelijks leven.

‘It is what we make of it and what we do with it’ lies at the core of my artistic practice.

As a mixed-media artist, also known as #Trash_Healer, I work at the intersection of play, encounter, and social reflection. I create work on invitation for exhibitions, but my primary field of practice is the public space, where the city functions as both studio and conversation partner.

There, I make street poetry on windows and facades and place yellow traffic signs with texts that respond to their surroundings. These interventions emerge in dialogue with the location and the people who pass by, opening space for reflection, recognition, and conversation.

Since 2020, I have been developing a growing collection of Trash sculptures in Amsterdam under the motto “Your Trash is My Treasure.” Using materials I collect from waste sites, I first create sketches in my studio, which I then reconstruct on location. With my cargo bike, I move through the city, searching for places where the work can enter into a relationship with its surroundings.

The sculptures are temporary and sometimes unstable, yet carefully composed. Spontaneous encounters often occur: passersby stop, respond, or offer help when something collapses. These interactions become part of the work, even though the act itself remains individual.

The interventions are short-lived and approachable, yet they touch on broader questions around consumption, value, and attention in the Anthropocene. Through image and presence, a form of soft activism emerges, one that invites rather than imposes a shift in perspective.

In total, I have realized more than 100 sculptures in the city. What remains are the images, documentation, and encounters: photographs, videos, performances, and texts in which the works and their context continue to live. Each sculpture stands on its own yet together they form an ongoing exploration of how meaning is created and how it continuously shifts in everyday life.
