On-Gestoord Verder’ – een tape-interventie in taal en ruimte
Voor tekenfestival The Big Draw ontwikkelde ik een site-specifiek muurwerk van 30 meter lang in ACEC (Apeldoorns Centrum voor Eigentijdse Cultuur), waarin taal, beweging en perceptie samenkomen. De woorden ON-GESTOORD VERDER zijn aangebracht met tape, maar laten zich niet in één oogopslag lezen. De bezoeker wordt uitgenodigd om fysiek positie te kiezen, letterlijk en figuurlijk, om de tekst te kunnen ontcijferen en betekenis te geven.
De installatie speelt met (on)verstoorbaarheid, richting en keuze. Variaties als Gestoord verder, Verstoord verder, of Onverstoord gestoord verder vormen een uitnodiging tot introspectie én interactie.
De monumentaliteit van de typografie transformeert de tekst tot beeld: schrift als abstractie, taal als ruimte. De bestaande groeven en uitsparingen in de muur worden bewust ingezet om de leesbaarheid te onderbreken — het tekstbeeld wordt verstoord en uitgedaagd, net als de toeschouwer zelf.
‘Un-Disturbed Onward’ – a tape-based intervention in language and space
Created for the drawing festival The Big Draw, this 30-meter site-specific wall piece at ACEC (Apeldoorn Centre for Contemporary Culture) brings language, movement, and perception into dialogue. The phrase UN-DISTURBED ONWARD, constructed entirely from tape, cannot be read at a single glance. Viewers are invited to physically reposition themselves — both literally and metaphorically — in order to decipher the text and engage with its layered meanings.
The work explores notions of (un)disturbance, direction, and decision-making. Variations such as Disturbed onward, Unsettled onward, or Unperturbed disturbed onward function as prompts for both introspection and interaction.
The monumental scale of the typography transforms text into image: writing becomes abstraction, language becomes space. Existing grooves and indentations in the wall are deliberately incorporated to disrupt legibility — fragmenting the text and, in turn, confronting the viewer with the instability of meaning.
