SIGNS (18 parts)
Sculpture Biennale ARTZUID http://www.artzuid.nl till 17 of October 2021. In her oeuvre, Joanneke Meester focuses on human consciousness and its environment. She uses her art to promote communication between people. She reflects on reality and combines engagement with humor. WE ARE not alONE, shows two robots with human features of Yoko Ono and John Lennon. They want to breathe new life into their message of peace. Their message is paradoxical, both disturbing and reassuring. Do we need robots to face the world’s problems or do they make humans redundant? The sculpture reminds us that we have to do it together. The other work SINGS (2011), consists of yellow traffic signs with texts that reflect on a personal state of mind. Texts such as Here the adventure begins, Rhythm disturbed or Remedy enter into a relationship with people who pass by. It is important for the artist to encourage people to have a moment of reflection, a laugh or a chat. That is certainly possible at the Zuidplein on the Zuidas this summer.
